On Sunday 3 September 2023, the Uluṟu Dialogue revealed that John Farnham had gifted his iconic You’re the Voice for the Yes campaign’s work. I was honoured to be at the campaign launch in Melbourne.

Here are Uluṟu Dialogue Co-Chairs Prof Megan Davis and Aunty Pat Turner with the Uluṟu Statement from the Heart:

And here’s the vibe in the room when the extraordinary ad, directed by Warwick Thornton, was played to the packed crowd at the Corner Hotel in Richmond:

Excuse the poor AV – all the video recordings are straight off my phone.

Here’s Mitch Tambo performing John Farnham’s You’re the Voice in Gamilaraay language, with thanks to NITV.

And, for easy sharing, here’s the superbly produced You’re the Voice ad.

The campaign was developed by The Monkeys, part of Accenture Song, alongside Prof Megan Davis and historian Prof Clare Wright OAM. It was produced by Photoplay and directed by Kaytetye man and award-winning feature film director and cinematographer Warwick Thornton. The film is the first commercial directed by Thornton.
